In today’s web design spotlight, were going to look at a small business web design in Castle Rock, Washington: Do All Trucking & Excavation.
The owner contacted us a couple of years ago asking about our services and our web design prices. After discussing the various options, he decided he would continue to manage his own website. Last year, we heard from him again. He had enough, his website wasn’t doing anything for his business, and decided it was time for him to hire a professional create and manage his website.
His existing website wasn’t mobile friendly and wasn’t doing very much for his business. Unless you searched his exact company name online, you couldn’t find it. As we all know, it’s great if someone knows your company name and can search it online. But what we need to do is allow those that don’t know your company name to find you online.
That was the #1 goal here. He needed a professional, mobile-friendly website that spelled out all the offerings and value he provides to his customers. Most importantly, the website needed to show up in search results when someone is looking for an excavation company or trucking service.
Since this was a local small business website, we recommended our small business premade website package. It’s affordable and includes up to five pages and is built on our unique, professional mobile-friendly web design template. It includes a domain name, hosting, SSL certificate, backups, security – everything you need from start to finish.
The owner liked this idea, and the rest is history.
Now, let’s look at the website.
When you visit the website, it’s crystal clear what this company provides. You get a rough idea on the type of services they offer, and the areas they serve. This is crucial. When a visitor first looks at your website, they need these questions answered.
You’ll notice at the top-right of the screen, there’s a phone number. This phone number is listed on every page. It’s always available to the visitor. There’s no question about how to contact this company.
When you scroll down, you’ll see a photo of the owner and a more detailed description of all the services they offer. When it comes to a small business, you must be personable. You can’t hide behind stock photos. You need to show yourself as the owner or your staff. People want to know if you look like someone they can trust to handle their job. And don’t worry about the photo quality. It’s more important you have a photo of you and your staff versus something perfectly polished.
On the about page, this is where the owner tells the story of the business. From where they started to where they are now. This is an especially important page on a small business website. Again, people want to know who they are thinking about doing business with. They want to get to know them from a distance and decide if they want to take the next step.
On the services page, we listed the primary services that the company offers, and what each of the services entail. This is good for your website visitors who are scanning and also for search engines.
You’ll notice at the very bottom of each page, there is a form. This allows people to easily send their question if they have one. Don’t assume that people will find your contact page and fill out the form there. You want to always make it as easy as possible for your visitors to contact your business. Your website is not an online brochure. It should be helpful and engaging. At the end of the day, this should be a great sales tool for your business.
We also included a photo gallery. You can think of this as a visual services page or portfolio. This gives visitors a visual representation of the services that the company offers.
On the contact page, all the information for the business is here. You can view the phone number, social media link, fill out a form, and even see a map location. Everything you need to contact the business.
Again, we used our small business premade website package for this company. As you’ve seen in the screenshots, it’s professional and easy to use. It’s also fast. That way when your visitors click, things happen quickly. You do not want your visitor sitting around waiting for a website to load. They won’t be patient.
By the way, his new website was launched a few months ago and it’s already in the top four results. There’s nowhere to go but up.
