Hi, my name’s Shawn. I’m with Graticle Design and we’re a website and graphic design company.
Today I want to feature a website that we’ve recently designed and developed and focus on a particular feature that we developed for them.
In this case, collecting payments online with PayPal.
This new WordPress website we created was for the Friends of Willamette Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Corvallis, Oregon.
When the Friends originally approached us for a new website, one of their main requirements was the ability to collect payment online through PayPal.
They didn’t want to setup a merchant account, a shopping cart, or anything like that. They just wanted to keep things simple but still allow people to sign up for their memberships online.
We came up with a solution that you don’t normally see integrated into PayPal.
What you see here is the Membership page on the Friends website. As we scroll down, the first option that users will see is the ability to Pay Online through PayPal.
They can select their Membership Level, if they are already a Member, they can also have an additional amount added, volunteer opportunities they are interested in and also the ability to opt out of sharing their information with the volunteer coordinator.
Typically in this situation, you would opt for a simple “buy now” button to allow members to pay online. You could have the drop-down menu with prices, but by default you are unable to collect information and also add more than one item to a purchase or donation.
What we’ve done here is created a fully custom payment form that takes the Membership Level and Additional Contribution Amount and adds those numbers together. It also grabs the other information like: if they are already a member, the volunteer opportunities they are interested in, and if they’d like to share their information with the volunteer coordinator.
Like I said a moment ago, I just wanted to show you this feature in case you’re interested in collecting payments online through PayPal, or even a fully-fledged ecommerce website with a shopping cart.
