Great. You have a website. We can check that off the list.
Does your website actually work for your business? That’s another story.
Let’s talk about the most important features your website should have.
#1) It’s Fast
Starting in 2018, Google factors website speed into consideration when ranking your website in search results. That should open your eyes.
When people view your website for the first time, does it just about instantly appear? Or does it take 5 or more seconds?
When they click around, does it take a few seconds per click?
The longer it takes, the more people who leave.
#2) Clearly State Your Offer
Do your visitors clearly understand your offer or what your business does? I’m not talking about on the services page or after they’ve scrolled down. Right when the page loads.
If not, you’re losing sales.
#3) Call to Action
Is there an easy way for the visitor to take the next step?
This can be a phone number, link to a form, etc.
There needs to be a call to action on every page of your website in an easy-to-find place. For instance, a phone number in the top-right corner.
Otherwise, you’re make it too difficult for people to do business with you. They’ll move on to the next business who makes this process easier.
#4) Real People (not Stock Photos)
Does your website include photos of people? Great.
Are they stock photos? Not so great.
You need unique photos from your business. Have a photo of the business owner, or the staff. Photos of products and building are better than nothing, but photos of people are the ticket.
People want to know with whom they’ll be doing business.
#5) About Page
One of the most popular pages on a website can be the About page.
People want to read the story of the business. Who is the owner, who are the staff, etc.
Show photos and tell the story of your business and your visitors will better connect and root for you.
