Marketing for Rocket Scientists

 

Often, we talk with business owners who want a website for their business, but don’t currently do any marketing.

We ask: “Facebook? Instagram? Craigslist?”

The answer: “Facebook? I don’t get it. Instagram? Why?”

My favorite excuse: “Craigslist? I tried it once and it didn’t work.”

The amount of free resources that exist to market our businesses is staggering.

You can get in front of your customers for free right now if you’d only spend some energy.

For instance, let’s say you have a local construction business in Southwest Washington State.

Now, go to Craigslist and post a free listing with photos from recent jobs you’ve done. You can also create multiple listings with each focusing on a specific service you provide.

Go to Facebook and create a business page for your construction company. Upload your logo and a handful of recent project photos. Invite all your family and friends to like your page.

Get an Instagram account and do the same thing.

Now, here’s what I want you to do after that’s all set up.

Go to Craigslist and renew your listing every three days to keep it at the top of the list for people browsing.

Every day while you’re in the field, snap a photo from a job site and post it to both Facebook and Instagram. Add a short caption to describe what the photo is about.

Contrary to what you may believe, non-rocket scientists can do this.

You now have three new places where people can discover your business.

Remember, people (not to mention, your competitors) are on these platforms, even if you’re not.
