Video: What is a Domain Name? – Graticle Design
Video Transcription
Hi, this is Shawn and I’m with Graticle Design. We’re a web design and development agency.
Today I want to go over what a domain name is and how you can get one today.
I have a lot of clients that will ask me: “What’s a domain name? Is this something that I need to take care of?”
A domain name is the web address that you type in to view a website.
For example, we’re at our website, graticle.com and you had to type in “graticle.com” in order to arrive at our website (or search on Google which typed it in for you). That means that our domain name is “graticle.com.”
If you’d like to own a domain name you need to register it annually.
The good news is that it’s fairly low cost, but the bad news is it’s a little difficult to purchase and point to your website. That’s the main reason we started providing this for our clients: to make things easier.
The first thing you can do is go to a domain name search, and type in the domain name without the .com or .net
The website will then let you know if the domain name (.com, .co, .net, .org, or .io) is available. If they are in blue that means that they are available, and if they are in red they are not.
Once you have chosen the domain name you want to own, you can give us a call at (360) 450-3711 and we’ll register it, put it in your name, and then it’s yours.
If you’d like more information, head over to our Domain Name Services page.
