Why Should I Update WordPress?
You’ll receive updates that allow extra functionality in WordPress, but most importantly, is to close known security loopholes.
WordPress is an open-source platform which means anyone can view the source files/code, alter it and test it. While this is a great thing, it comes with a downside: anyone can do the above. If a hacker want’s to create an environment where they can simulate a WordPress website and find a way in, they can and they often do. When they discover a vulnerability, they scour the internet for all websites running this version of WordPress and find a way in. Since WordPress is extremely popular and many people manage their websites themselves, finding an out-of-date WordPress website is easy.
Now, I know, you’re scared of updating WordPress. You should be more scared of someone finding their way into your website, installing malware where it potentially is installed on every computer that visits your website. Or, they simply take down your website, or redirect it to any number of questionable genre’s of websites in existence. Either way, the outcome is not good.
There are many other reasons why you should update WordPress, but this is the primary reason.
