What is one new lead worth to your business?
Most business owners know what a sale is worth. Far fewer know what a phone call or a form from their website is worth, which makes it hard to judge a marketing budget. Enter a few numbers below to find out. Rough guesses are fine.
How to Use the Numbers
Judge your marketing
If one lead is worth $150 in profit and your advertising wins leads for $60 each, it is paying for itself. If leads cost $200, something needs to change.
Set a budget with confidence
The break-even number is the most you can spend to win one lead and still come out even. Spending below it is profitable growth.
See what a better website is worth
A website that turns a few more visitors into calls each month can be worth more over a year than most people expect. The extra leads figure shows how much.
Questions
What counts as a lead?
Any person who contacts you about buying: a phone call, a quote request, a contact form, an email or a message. Leave out spam and sales calls.
I do not know my close rate. What should I use?
Think about your last 10 quote requests or calls and count how many became paying customers. If you cannot remember, 20% to 30% is a common starting point for service businesses.
Why use profit instead of the sale price?
Because profit is what you can afford to spend on winning the customer. A $2,000 job with a 30% margin leaves $600 to cover marketing and still pay you.
Should I count repeat business?
Yes, if customers really do come back. A customer who buys three times over a few years is worth three times as much, and that changes how much a lead is worth. Be honest with the number.
How do I get more leads from my website?
Usually by making it easier to find on Google, faster on phones and clearer about what to do next. Our free website audit shows what is holding yours back.
